Viewers in the nation’s fourth-largest market now have access to television signals delivered via free-to-air stations thanks to ATSC 3.0 technology that is being rolled out across the U.S. on a voluntary basis.

NEXTGEN TV is now available in Philadelphia to those with a compatible receiver or a dongle that will allow these ATSC 3.0-powered signals to be viewed on an older, more common television set.

LTN is enabling the video transport between the contributing Philadelphia stations.

In particular, NEXTGEN TV in the market is being fueled by the LTN Network, a proprietary multicast IP transport network, designed to ensure that each station’s content is sent to the NextGen transmitter with reliability and low latency.

Philadelphia viewers can now access six channels broadcasting in NEXTGEN TV:

  • CBS News & Stations’ KYW-3 (CBS) and WPSG-57
  • ABC Owned Stations’ WPVI-6
  • NBCUniversal Local’s WCAU-10
  • FOX Television Stations’ WTXF-29
  • TelevisaUnivisions’ WUVP-65 (Univision)

Pearl TV, which led the Philadelphia NEXTGEN TV rollout along with LTN, tells RBR+TVBR that WPSG is serving as the “lighthouse” ATSC 3.0 facility for the market.

Now broadcasting in more than 65 markets, NEXTGEN TV is expected to reach 75% of U.S. television households in 2023.
