MESA, ARIZ. — In June 2022, RBR+TVBR reported on the acquisition of three FM radio stations serving Elko, Nev., by an individual who enjoyed a 19-year stint as a production director and “Arrow 93.1” air talent at KCBS-FM in L.A., today “JACK FM.”
Now, Rich Hudson and his Global One Media, which paid $1 million for the trio, have a crosstown competitor with a new owner, pending FCC approval.
Elko Radio Company, headed by Paul Gardner, is saying farewell to Elko, Carlin and Winnemucca, Nev., as he’s struck a deal that will send his four FMs, four FM translators and an AM to 5T LLC.
That’s a Gilbert, Ariz.-based licensee led by Tyler Gunter.
With Scott Johnson at Smithwick & Belendiuk serving as legal counsel, 5T is entering into a stock purchase agreement with Gardner that sees Gunter agree to acquire the following properties:
- K297BC at 107.3 MHz, K240AI and K288AU in Carlin
- KELK-AM 1240, K255CE at 98.9 MHz, KEAU-FM 104.7, KLKO-FM 93.7 and KRJC-FM 95.3 in Elko
- KWNA-FM 92.7 in Winnemucca
A $1 million purchase price for the 38,000 shares of the voting common stock in Elko was agreed upon.
A Time Brokerage Agreement has been executed, giving Gunter control of the stations prior to closing. TBA payment credits will be used toward the purchase price. That said, a Promissory Note for $1 million will be honored by Gardner.
With the sale, Gardner is parting ways with KRJC after agreeing to acquire it in July 2018 for $300,000 from Ralph Carlson’s Holiday Broadcasting. KRJC was added to the other properties in Elko.
Together with Tamra Gunter, Tyler has no other broadcast interests.
Locally, Tyler Gunter gained a reputation as “Ty The Insurance Guy,” working with Elko-based Priority Plus Insurance & Financial Group.
