A Silent N.C. AM, Once ‘Activa,’ Set For New Life

On August 1, 2018, a Class B AM with 10kw during daylight hours and 5kw at night fell silent. It was once a Davidson Media station offering Spanish-language programming, and its past includes ownership by Truth Broadcasting and Jefferson-Pilot Communications.

Now, this forlorn station serving the Triad region of North Carolina is getting a new lease on life.

An asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC indicates that TBLC Media LLC, which acquired former Davidson Media properties in a host of markets including Greensboro-Winston Salem in July 2015, has agreed to sell WWBG-AM 1470 in Greensboro to Twin City Broadcasting Co.

The station uses a transmitter site in Summerfield, N.C., which includes a Harris DX-10 10kw AM transmitter manufactured in 2008. There’s also an Orban processor, Barix decoders and one Potomac Instruments antenna monitor in the deal.

It’s a transaction valued at $85,000, and delivers WWBG to an entity led by Richard Miller. He also has 68.5% attributable interest in WTOB-AM in Winston-Salem, a Class D facility with an FM translator.

His legal representative in the transaction: Davina Sashkin of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth.

TBLC, which is led by Mark Janbakhsh, saw the legal services of Anthony Lepore of Radiotvlaw Associates in Northwest Washington, D.C.

At closing, Janbakhsh will pay a $10,000 fee to Jorgenson Broadcast Brokerage and Fowler Media Consulting LLC for services rendered as part of the sale process.
