On Sept. 7, Gray Television petitioned the FCC to modify the satellite television market for its CBS affiliate in Wausau, Wisconsin — WSAW-7.
The goal? To place the station in the Duluth, Minn.-Superior, Wisc. DMA, thus making it a station that both Dish Network and DirecTV would need to add to its lineup in two far-northern Wisconsin counties that could not receive in-state broadcast TV stations.
In its petition, Gray wished to provide WSAW as a valuable in-state signal to northern Wisconsin residents who they say are unable to access local and state-wide news, weather, and sports – including Green Bay Packers telecasts.
After a review and challenges from Hubbard Broadcasting and Red River Broadcasting, the FCC on Tuesday (1/17) ruled in favor of Gray.
