A 24-hour global marathon is in progress Friday as hundreds of college radio stations across more than 50 countries are uniting for “World College Radio Day.” This year’s commemoration incorporates the theme “Tune In To The People.”
The official events surrounding the October 3 annual event began at 5am GMT at UCC98.3 FM in University College Cork, Ireland, and traveled across time zones with contributions from stations in Costa Rica, India, Australia, Italy, Ghana, Malaysia, Spain, Mexico, and the U.S.
Serving as President of World College Radio Day 2025 is Gabriel Menchero, General Manager of Frecuencia CEM at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico. “At a time when our world faces growing challenges, divisions, and injustices, the role of college radio is more essential than ever: to amplify plural voices, promote understanding, and provide a safe space where humanity is respected,” Menchero said.
World College Radio Day marks its 15th anniversary this year. It is founded by Dr. Rob Quicke, Director of the School of Journalism & Mass Communications at Marshall University. “For fifteen years, World College Radio Day has united stations worldwide to amplify the voices that matter most – those of the people,” he said. “On this special 15th anniversary, ‘Tune in to the People’ reminds us that every story counts, every voice is vital, and by truly listening, we build bridges of respect and understanding across borders.”
Listeners can hear the worldwide broadcast exclusively on Live365.com, which has partnered with WCRD by donating resources to power the marathon.
