Nexstar Doubles It Up In San Diego

In the summer of 1995, a Los Angeles courtroom played host to a bidding war that attracted the eyes of every broadcast media broker in America. Tribune Broadcasting was seeking, against another potential station owner, to purchase a station in San Diego. It was eventually the winner, giving it what is today The CW Network affiliate for “America’s Finest City,” KSWB-69, branded as “FOX 5.”

Thanks to its acquisition of Tribune, Nexstar Media Group today owns KSWB. Pending FCC approval, it will own a second television station in San Diego — and Tucson-based brokerage Kalil & Co. helped put the deal together.
