Westwood One is bringing itself a little “Good Karma” as it welcomes its new VP of Affiliate Sales for Sports.
How so? He’s inbound at the Cumulus Media-owned national radio entity from the Milwaukee-headquartered company led by Craig Karmazin.
Taking the post is Ryan Maguire, who served until January as Director of Content for GKB’s WTMJ-AM and WKTI-FM in Milwaukee. He was in the role for 11 months, and previously served as Executive Producer of the WMVP-AM in Chicago-based Chicago White Sox Radio Network.
It’s a quick rise for Maguire at sports radio since returning to the fold after a career pivot, as he will now oversee the distribution and marketing of all Westwood One’s Sports programming, comprised of NFL play-by-play, NCAA Men’s Basketball “March Madness” coverage, NCAA Football, The Masters golf tournament, and Sports Talk networks CBS Sports Radio and BetQL.
From September 2020 through February 2022, he was a freelance columnist for Barrett Sports Media and, for nine months prior to that, was a Producer and Content Manager for New York-based digital audio startup SpokenLayer.
That said, Maguire is a veteran of the former CBS Radio, and has held such roles as Program Director for Sports Talkers KDKA-FM in Pittsburgh; WQAM-AM in Miami; and KCSP-AM in Kansas City. He secured his first full-time role in radio upon high school graduation in 1999 at Fairfield Broadcasting Inc.’s Kalamazoo, Mich., operations. Maguire is from Grand Rapids and was a Cook Media LLC part-time producer prior to graduation.
At Westwood One, Maguire reports to Stuart Greenblatt, Senior Vice President of Affiliate Sales for Westwood One. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Westwood One Sports. They have long established themselves as best-in-class content curators and syndicators,” Maguire said. “I’m excited to team with our affiliate stations and partners to help them achieve success utilizing our many assets.”
