A low-powered television station serving Florida’s First Coast on virtual channel 9 is the latest property being acquired by the Norman Shapiro-owned Weigel Broadcasting, via its TV-49 Inc. subsidiary.
WJKF-CD, licensed to Jacksonville, Fla., is being purchased from Abacus Television.
That’s a licensee run by Ron Bruno, and owned by Pittsburgh-based Benjamin Pérez.
With Covington & Burlington attorney Matt DelNero serving as Weigel’s legal counsel, paperwork has been filed at the FCC seeking its approval of the deal.
A $1.075 million purchase price has been agreed to; a $53,750 deposit has been made to the seller.
Greg Guy and his Tideline Partners LLC served as the broker in this transaction, representing Abacus.
WJKF is not carried by any MVPD at this time.
What are Weigel’s plans for the station? At present its signature MeTV network can be found on WFOX-30.2, via a lease agreement with the Cox Media Group-owned broadcast facility. A move is one potential future possibility for Channel 9.
