Weigel Gets New City of License For Future TV Station

In October 2023, the company behind the MeTV network and the owner of the CBS affiliate serving Milwaukee filed a petition with the FCC asking it to adjust the Table of TV allotments — a change that would allow an unbuilt television station to shift its city of license to a small Wisconsin city bordering Shawano Lake.

Weigel Broadcasting has gotten its wish.

With no comments filed as part of a FCC Notice of Proposed Rulemaking process affording input from interested parties, FCC Media Bureau Video Division Chief Barbara Kreisman gave her OK to have future digital channel 31 shifted from Wittenberg, Wisc., to Shawano, Wisc. The move puts the forthcoming TV station some 29 miles to the east — and closer to Green Bay, Wisc. Conversely, it shifts the property further away from Wausau, Wisc., to the west.

Weigel made the petition through its TV-49 Inc. licensee name.
