Wednesday ratings winner 'American Idol'

The AMERICAN IDOL Top 12 performed last night and gave FOX the nightly win across all key demos. FOX outperformed the combined 4-net competition by +17% among Adults 18-49 and +2% in Total Viewers, and beat the next highest rated network for the night (CBS) by +139%.


AMERICAN IDOL:  Posted a 7.4/21, retaining 91% of last Wednesday’s performance (Note that overall TV usage last night was down -4% from 8-10pm last night due to the Daylight Savings time change)

AMERICAN IDOL was the highest rated program of the night in all key demos and beat the next highest rated program of the night (Criminal Minds) by +106% in A18-49 and +62% in Total Viewers   

IDOL showed impressive growth throughout the night, increasing in its last half hour vs. its first by +30% in the adult demo (8.2 vs. 6.3) and +25% in Total Viewers (24.1 vs. 19.3 Mil.)         

Versus the comparable telecast last year (Top 12 on 3/16/10), last night’s IDOL retained 91% of its Adults 18-49 (vs. 8.1/22) and 97% of its Total Viewers (vs. 22.9 Mil.).                         

So far this season with Comparable Most Current ratings AMERICAN IDOL is retaining 92% of the audience it drew at the same point in the competition last year among Adults 18-49 (8.7/23 vs. 9.5/24) and 98% in Total Viewers (24.9 vs. 25.3 Mil.).  

Competition
Following repeats of The Middle (1.2/4 and 1.2/4) and Modern Family (2.2/6), ABC’s new series Mr. Sunshine (1.8/5) and Off the Map (1.4/4) were both flat week over week and matched their lowest ratings to date.

On CBS, Survivor: Redemption Island kicked off the night with its lowest-rated regular telecast ever (3.1/10, down -3%). Through five weeks Survivor is off to its lowest rated start ever (3.2/9), down -11% from its previous lowest installment though this point in the season (Survivor: Samoa, 3.6/11, Fall 2009). At 9pm, Criminal Minds (3.6/10) was flat from its last original while Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2.6/7) gained +18% week over week.

NBC aired a lowest-ever Minute to Win It (0.9/3) and back-to-back repeats of Law & Order: SVU at 9p (0.9/3) and 10p (1.5/4).
