WASHINGTON, D.C. — CBS News has completed what it calls “several key appointments” in its M Street news hub, including the selection of a new bureau chief and giving the executive producer of its Sunday political talk program Face the Nation a wider role.

Taking the role of VP and Washington Burea Chief is Mark X. Lima.

CBS News describes Lima as “an accomplished, multiplatform news executive and award-winning journalist.” He begins his new role on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day — January 17.

Additionally, Face the Nation EP Mary Hager will also now serve as Executive Editor of Politics as Matthew Mosk is tapped as Senior Investigative Editorial Director.  “We are investing in the future of CBS News by continuing to strengthen our newsgathering and investigative reporting – much of which originates out of Washington,” said Neeraj Khemlani, president and co-head of CBS News and Stations. “We are putting together a strong team ahead of the midterms and presidential elections, who will bring a fresh multiplatform perspective to their respective areas and continue to make CBS News a destination for top political reporting and exclusive investigations.”

Mark LimaLima is relocating from California, where he currently serves as CBS News’ West Coast Bureau Chief. He’s been in L.A. for CBS News since August 2020. Before that, he spent 7 years as VP/News for the just-shuttered Fusion, a Univision English-language news and features operation that began as a joint venture with ABC News.  From 1998 until Fusion’s 2013 launch, Lima was with ABC News in various roles, exiting as a Senior Producer of Nightline. Lima began his career in 1991 as a Sports Producer on NewsChannel 8, the Allbritton-owned cable TV network serving Washington, D.C. In 1994, Lima shifted to a similar position at ABC-affiliated sibling WJLA-7, marking his entry into the ABC family, albeit indirectly.

Dell Williams will step in as the interim West Coast bureau chief; he has served as the deputy bureau chief for the West Coast bureau since last fall and joined CBS News in April 2014.

Hager is an Inside the Beltway news veteran, and has been with the CBS News Washington bureau since 1991, four years after her work at Cavalier Daily as a University of Virginia undergrad.

Mosk, also a D.C. news veteran and known as an investigative reporter, joins CBS News on February 7 to direct the investigative unit based in Washington. Mosk spent the past 12 years at ABC News, where he was a senior investigative producer overseeing enterprise reporting about Washington and politics, including during the past three presidential campaigns. Prior to ABC News, Mosk had a long career in print journalism. He spent 10 years at the Washington Post, and had reporting assignments at the Baltimore Sun, Washington Times and Los Angeles Times. He brings to CBS News nearly 30 years of experience in print, digital, audio, broadcast and streaming journalism.

Lorna Jones continues as deputy bureau chief of the Washington bureau, a role she has held since 2020 after serving as managing editor in Washington.
