Vizio SmartCast TVs Now Have Locast

Users of the donation-based local TV via IP service the NAB and the nation’s “Big Four” networks despise have another point of access now available to them.

Locast users can now access IP-delivered local broadcast TV news, weather, sports and entertainment offerings on their Vizio SmartCast TVs.

With smart TVs becoming more common, the addition of the app could prove to be another headache for a beleaguered cable TV services business, which continues to suffer from “cord cutting” among consumers frustrated with the monthly cost.

To access the Locast app on a Vizio SmartCast TV, one may simply press the input button and choose the SmartCast input, or press the V key or Home key near the center of a Vizio remote. The Locast app will be displayed in the app row of SmartCast Home or in the apps screen.

There is no install necessary on SmartCast TVs. The app appears automatically on the app row of the home screen and the user need only activate it by using a browser; the app will show programming on screen.

For others, once one downloads and installs the Locast app on a Vizio SmartCast TV, they will be required to activate it.
