It’s unwise to file a license renewal application after it is due to the FCC.
Two radio station owners now know just for themselves what the penalty may be for their respective tardiness.
A Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture in the amount of $3,000 was handed by the FCC on Thursday (11/12) to Dry Prong Educational Broadcasting Foundation.
Why? It failed to timely file a license renewal application for Class A noncommercial KVDP-FM 89.1 in Dry Prong, La.
An application for renewal of the station’s license should have been filed by December 2, 2019, the first full business day following the first day of the fourth full calendar month prior to the station’s license expiration date of June 1, 2020.
The Application was not filed until May 22, with zero explanation as to why.
Similarly, the FCC handed a NALF to … the Louisiana State Penitentiary?!
That’s correct, it is the licensee of Class A KLSP-FM 91.7 in Angola, La., nicknamed “The Incarceration Station.”
It’s on the hook for a $3,000 fine for not filing its Application until May 29, under the similar time frame given to KVDP.
Both stations now have 30 days to pay or seek a reduction or cancellation of the NALFs.
