MIAMI — For more than a decade prior to Wade Davis becoming CEO of Univision Communications, the Univision News arm of the company accomplished a lot with what some insiders lamented was a permanent skeleton crew.
Now under new leadership, those who’ve had something to say about getting more talent in the newsroom have had their wishes come true: Univision is on a hiring spree.
Univision Communications on Wednesday confirmed that some 87 new open positions at Univision News are to be filled.
The jobs are centered in the production of news and include reporters, anchors and correspondents, as well as producers, editors, operators, and technicians.
These individuals, upon hiring, “will accelerate Univision’s evolution to become the largest Spanish-language media company in the world.”
Additional details about Univision’s transformation will be announced following the closing of the Televisa-Univision merger, which will indeed put Univision ahead of PRISA-owned properties and some of the biggest Spanish-language television operations headquartered in Madrid, Bogotá and Buenos Aires.
Positions in Univision’s Miami “Newsport,” located in a rented facility in Doral, Fla., are to be filled alongside roles at Univision-owned television stations in Houston, Chicago and Phoenix.
“This newsroom investment demonstrates Univision’s growth and expansion strategy, but most importantly its continued commitment to serving the Hispanic community,” the company said on October 21.
