TV On The News Feed: Two Univision Shows To ‘Watch’

Later this summer, Hispanic consumers will have a new option for viewing content produced by the news division of Univision Communications. It will definitely involve watching. But, it won’t involve any of Univision’s linear channels or its online platforms.

Two new Univision News programs will be made exclusive to the Facebook Watch platform.

The first is “Real America with Jorge Ramos,” featuring Univision’s star news anchor. In this series, Ramos travels the country to talk to immigrants of diverse backgrounds and situations, delivering a view of today’s America from their perspective.

The second, as previously hinted by Univision, is “Noticiero Univision Edición Digital” – billed as a “unique and 100% interactive Spanish-language newscast” presented each weekday at Noon “in a fresh and informal reporting style” by co-anchors Carolina Sarassa and Borja Voces.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Facebook in this exciting new phase of its Watch platform,” said Univision News President Daniel Coronell. “The news section in Facebook Watch will offer audiences a carefully planned digital destination for top quality news shows and videos, and we are honored to be among the first news organizations providing content for it. Because U.S. Hispanics are avid social media users, it is only natural to expect that they’ll embrace this new option for viewing trustworthy news through one of their favorite platforms, Facebook.”

This first lineup of funded shows to be featured in the news section of Facebook Watch includes news publishers from broadcast to digital native, national and local.

The shows, produced exclusively for Facebook, will be hosted by award-winning journalists, as well as new faces, and the formats will vary. Facebook will work closely with its publisher partners to experiment with these different formats to understand what works.
