A pair of non-profit full-power television stations are fully aware of the upcoming incentive auction, and the potential for a large one-time cash infusion has them mulling the possibilities.
According to The Courier, one is leaning toward participation, and the other is leaning toward staying in business.
Bowling Green State University’s WBGU-TV is strongly considering putting the Channel 27 outlet up for auction. The station brain trust believes the station may be worth $40 million.
Meanwhile, Public Broadcasting Foundation of Northwest Ohio is more inclined to hang on to its Channel 29 WGTE, which it believes could be worth $55 million. (WGTE uses virtual Channel 30.)
According to the article, the station have minimal overlap – WBGU is located south of Toledo. WGTE is centered on Toledo.
According to Greenhill 1 estimates, maximum value for a full power television station in the DMA is $100 million, with a median value pegged at $55 million.
Greenhill 2 posited maximum values for stations, from which bidding would descend, and EOBC plugged in the formula and a more generous formula of its own to get estimates for individual stations.
WBGU’s results are $178,256,329 and $348,530,501.
WGTE’s results are $220,915,512 and $384,213,908.
