A Class D non-directional, two-pattern AM station in Kentucky with a Talk lineup that includes such syndicated personalities as Larry Elder, Dave Ramsey, Laura Ingraham, and Rick & Bubba is trading hands.
In a transaction consummated Thursday (7/20), New Albany Broadcasting is purchasing WLRT-AM 1250, licensed to the Lexington, Ky., suburb of Nicholasville, Ky., for $175,000.
The seller is Christian Broadcasting System, led by Jon Yinger.
New Albany is an independent multimedia company that is active in the nearby Louisville market. Its properties serving Kentucky’s largest market include WKYI-24, a This TV affiliate; Regional Mexican WLRS-AM 1570 “La Poderosa,” simulcast on W270CR at 101.9 MHz; and Class D daytimer WLUE-AM 1600 in Eminence, Ky., which uses FM translator W231DB at 94.1 MHz in Shebyville, Ky.
WLYE and W231DB simulcast “La Poderosa,” giving it coverage of a largely agricultural area east of Louisville.
It now appears that the “Real Talk” programming of WLRT will soon disappear; WLRT’s signal would allow “La Poderosa” to greatly expand its listening area.
N.A.B.C. did not immediately state what its plans were for WLRT once it closes its acquisition of the facility, which boasts 1 tower and output of 500 watts during daylight hours and just 59 watts at night.
This WLRT is not to be confused with the station currently sporting the WXTG-AM call letters. That facility in located in the Norfolk market, and was WLRT prior to 2007.
The exclusive broker in this transaction, representing both the buyer and seller, is actually the seller: Jon Yinger is a media broker affiliated with Broadcast Properties LLC, and he handled the deal.
Broadcast Properties LLC is a radio/TV brokerage and consulting firm based near Detroit.
