Thanks To ‘MaxxCasting,’ WKSU Is Hot in Cleveland

On September 10, 2021, RBR+TVBR first reported on a Class B FM that offers “Public Radio News for Northeast Ohio,” primarily to Akron and Canton but also to the Cleveland market due north of its home of Kent State University.

At the time, word leaked to local media that Kent State’s Board of Trustees was preparing to introduce a plan to merge WKSU-FM 89.7 in Kent, Ohio with Cleveland-based noncomm operator Ideastream Public Media. That operations agreement came to be, with KSU retaining ownership of the station. And, it led to WKSU becoming the NPR Member station fueled by spoken word programming for the entire Cleveland DMA.

But, what of WKSU’s penetration of Cleveland and its surrounding towns on Lake Erie? Enter GeoBroadcast Solutions, which solved much of those worries for Ideastream.
