PHILADELPHIA — The digital cable TV station for Temple University has a new way to bring student-produced programming to viewers not only across the Delaware Valley, but anywhere they may have access to a local TV station’s Connected TV streaming app.
It’s thanks to a partnership between the school and Nexstar Media Group.
The arrangement sees six Temple University Television (TUTV) shows gaining distribution via PHL17+, the streaming app associated with WPHL-17 in Philadelphia, obtained by Nexstar via its merger with Tribune Broadcasting.
Six TUTV programs—Queer Temple, Shedding Light, Temple Pilots, Temple Talk, TUgether and We Need to Talk—are already streaming weekly on the platform.
“All of us at PHL17 are excited to work with Temple University and TUTV to bring the Klein College of Media and Communications students’ programming to our viewers through PHL17+, the newest CTV (Connected TV) app in the Philadelphia region,” said Lloyd Bucher, the former WPTV-5 in West Palm Beach Top Local TV Leader who today serves as WPHL’s VP/GM. “We couldn’t be more excited about this.”
TUTV GM Joe Schreiber added, “For PHL17 to showcase student-produced programming on a streaming platform speaks volumes about the quality of our students’ work. As media continues to evolve digitally, this collaboration demonstrates how industry and education can move forward together, grounded in professional trust and meaningful experiential learning.”
