NEW YORK — The division of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises that’s charged with the development and production of scripted content screen across Comcast’s Spanish-language video platforms serving U.S. Hispanics has just inked a Memorandum of Understanding with a Brazilian TV giant that will see the two media entities join forces and expand storytelling across the globe.
This will see Telemundo Studios work with Globo, one of Brazil’s biggest media companies and one of the largest content producers across Latin America.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is in place, and it will see the respective media companies co-develop and co-produce content including original films and series. The content would be available in Brazil on the Globoplay Originals platform. In the U.S., Telemundo’s broadcast and streaming platforms in the U.S. would offer the programs.
“The collaboration builds on their long-standing relationship and reinforces both companies’ commitment to expanding their storytelling reach across the U.S., Brazil, and global content markets,” Telemundo said on Thursday. “While titles, formats, and production models are still being defined, the focus is on creating high-value intellectual property (IP) with broad international appeal.”
While Brazil is the world’s largest market for Portuguese-language content, the nation’s production and media content has long been offered to Spanish-speaking audiences across the Americas. Telemundo Studios and Globo in the past co-produced Spanish-language adaptations of iconic Globo telenovelas such as Vale Tudo (Vale Todo), O Clone (El Clon), and Fina Estampa (Marido en Alquiler), alongside co-productions such as Amores Roubados (Jugar con Fuego).
“This collaboration marks an important step in expanding our storytelling reach and building a creative bridge between Brazil and the broader Hispanic world,” said Javier Pons, Chief Content Officer & Head of Telemundo Studios. “With our unique expertise and ability to produce content that resonates globally, this partnership is going to strengthen our editorial alignment and paves the way for premium scripted projects that connect with audiences across borders.”
Manuel Belmar, Director of Digital Products at Globo, commented, “This co-production understanding with Telemundo Studios reinforces Globo’s investment in creating scripted IP that captivates audiences worldwide. By bringing together our strengths, we’re confident we can develop compelling stories that not only resonate in Brazil and the U.S. but also expand our international reach at a time when global storytelling is more important than ever.”
