The new ABC affiliate poised to serve viewers from Parkland to Key West will be covered under an extended audience measurement, data and analytics agreement between the forthcoming digital multichannel station’s owner and Nielsen.
As RBR+TVBR previously reported, WSVN-7.2 on August 4 will become “ABC Miami,” taking the ABC television network affiliation from Berkshire Hathaway’s lone broadcast television station, WPLG-10.
Ratings will be necessary to attract advertisers, and the new agreement between Nielsen and Sunbeam Television, owner of WSVN, will ensure that happens. WSVN-7.1 will remain the market’s FOX affiliate and retain the branding it has had for decades as “South Florida’s News Leader.”
The affiliation switch, the third Miami has seen in the last 40 years, will take place on August 4, leaving WPLG-10 a news-intensive unaffiliated station competing against WSVN in addition to WFOR-4, WTVJ-6 and Spanish-language news organizations consumed by bilingual audiences.
The expanded deal with Sunbeam includes Nielsen’s Local Over the Top (OTT) measurement and Digital Content Ratings. “This will provide Sunbeam Television Corporation a complete picture of ABC Miami’s unique audience across all platforms, powering critical insights and new revenue opportunities,” Nielsen said.
Paul Magnes, co-President of Sunbeam Television Corp., commented, “We’re thrilled to add ABC Miami to our partnership with Nielsen for a comprehensive measurement of Local TV, including across digital platforms. Accurate, cross-media measurement is critical to providing our advertising partners with the insights they need to invest with confidence.”
