ORLANDO — The man who presently serves as President/GM of the Telemundo Station Group properties serving the Las Vegas, Sacramento and Fresno markets has been selected to lead the Comcast unit’s three Telemundo stations in Central Florida. It’s the first move since José Cancela took over as President.

José Alberto Suárez will now serve as President/General Manager of Telemundo Station Group’s WTMO-31 in Orlando, WRMD-49 in Tampa and WWDT-CD 43 in the fast-growing Fort Myers-Naples-Bonita Springs market.

In his new role, Suárez will oversee all aspects of the trio of stations, reporting to Cancela. He’ll lead local leadership teams across news, sales, digital media, technology, human resources, marketing and creative, and community affairs. Suarez will also work closely with Cancela’s executive team and leaders from NBCUniversal Local, the division that includes Telemundo Station Group.

Suárez succeeds Migdalia Figueroa, who was recently named President/General Manager of WKAQ-2 “Telemundo Puerto Rico.” That move was precipitated by Cancela’s appointment to the top role for Telemundo Station Group.

“José is a talented local media executive who has successfully guided several stations in our portfolio to expand their impact and achieve growth in diverse and varied markets,” Cancela said. “In addition to his proven record as a leader, he has significant hands-on experience in many critical areas of our business. I’m pleased José will continue the great work of Migdalia and her local teams in serving our communities.”

A Florida native, Suárez has more than 25 years of local media experience in talent, news, digital media, creative and leadership roles. He’s been associated with Telemundo since 2006.

Before joining KCSO-33 in Sacramento and KNSO-51 in Fresno in April 2019, adding oversight of KBLR-39 in Las Vegas in January 2023, Suarez was President/GM of Telemundo-owned stations in Salt Lake City and San Antonio.

Earlier career roles include a stint as Director of Creative Services & Programming for WTVJ-6 Miami and spent time with FOX affiliate WUPW-TV in Toledo, Ohio.

The Telemundo Station Group is comprised of owned stations in 31 markets and operates digital multicast network TeleXitos along with free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) news channels Noticias Telemundo California, Noticias Telemundo Florida, Noticias Telemundo Noreste and Noticias Telemundo Texas.
