Stock prices rose on demand from China

Wall Street shrugged off a rise in new US unemployment claims and focused on indications that China’s economy is still growing and buying stuff from abroad. Materials stock led the advance – and better-than expected earnings reported by Google after the closing bell set the stage for a strong Friday start as well. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 181 points, or 1.4%, to 12,987. Broadcasting stocks also advanced.


The RBR Radio Index was up 6.429, or 1.7%, to 388.536.

The TVBR Television Index was up 2.798, or 1.2%, to 241.975.
