She began her broadcast television career as an intern at Hearst Television’s CBS affiliate in Louisville. Since that day in 2012, she’s risen through the ranks, serving as the station’s news director until now.
Meet the new President and GM of WLKY-TV.
That’s the station at Channel 32 in Kentucky’s largest market, and Andrea Stahlman is succeeding Glenn Haygood, who is retiring at the end of this month after more than four decades in television broadcasting.
“Andrea has devoted her entire professional life to her hometown of Louisville and WLKY,” said Hearst Television President Michael J. Hayes. “She knows this community like few other journalists ever have and is the ideal executive to shape and lead WLKY into the future.”
Stahlman started as a WLKY intern after graduating from the University of Notre Dame as a member of the Class of 1993. There, she played on the Fighting Irish volleyball team. Within a few months, WLKY hired her as a full-time Assignment Editor. In fast time, she rose to News Producer, to Executive Producer, and then in 1999 became Asst. News Director ahead of her most recent role.
Stahlman is a lifetime RTDNA member, Stahlman served as its board chair from 2020 to 2021. She is also a member of Leadership Louisville Center, a nationally recognized civic engagement and leadership development nonprofit founded in 1979, and is a graduate of the Hearst Management Institute, Hearst’s executive leadership development program; and of the National Association of Broadcasters’ Broadcast Leadership Training Program.
Haygood has been at the helm of WLKY since March 2008. Prior to that, he was General Sales Manager of WXII-12 in Greensboro, N.C. A University of Central Florida graduate, he first rose through the sales ranks as a General Sales Manager for WKMG-6 in Orlando, a role he held from March 1988 through July 1995.
Haygood’s pending retirement comes just days after Gray Media, upon closing its Block Communications Inc. acquisition, named Jay Hiett the General Manager for those stations in addition to its WAVE-3, the NBC affiliate it owned in Louisville before acquiring WDRB Media.
