Spry Move Will Send ‘ClassX’ Home To ‘King of Kings’

Bill Spry loves his Classic Rock deep cuts, and created “ClassX Radio” as a non-commercial listener-supported home of tracks from a wide range of 1970s-era artists, with “Sometimes a Fantasy” by Billy Joel heard just after the 10am hour on April 23.

A spring fund drive is ongoing today. But it is now known that one of the station’s broadcast homes is being sold. The buyer will change the programming to non-secular fare devoted to Christ.

Spryex Communications on April 15 signed off on an asset sale agreement that will bring WMWX-FM 88.9 in Miamitown, Ohio, a Class A facility using a broadcast tower in St. Leon, Indiana, into the stable of stations held by Somerset Educational Broadcasting Foundation.

The buyer, a Kentucky non-profit, focuses on “broadcasting the gospel into all the world” through King Of Kings Radio, a Christian Talk and Teaching operation heard on six FMs across Kentucky and on WNKW-AM in Neon, Ky.; WWOG-FM in Cookeville, Tenn.; and WGNH-FM in South Webster and WZWP-FM in West Union, Ohio.

A $157,500 purchase price has been agreed upon, with a $50,000 earnest money deposit being held in escrow.

At closing, $7,500 will be paid to the seller’s broker of record, representing a 5% fee. The name of the broker was not revealed in documents submitted to the FCC for its regulatory approval.

The sale of WMWX by “ClassX” radio could be seen as a divestment of a non-essential asset. That’s because Spryex in June 2023 agreed to acquire WHSS-FM 89.5 in Hamilton, Ohio, greatly increasing its coverage of the Miami Valley and the city of Oxford, Ohio. It can also be heard in-car across much of greater Cincinnati but not Dayton, to the northeast. Spryex paid $45,000 for WHSS.

Spry is also known for his role as President of broadcast software, radio programming and consulting firm Spry Group Multimedia.
