‘Sports Hog’ Removed From Fort Smith Home

The Fort Smith Radio Group until recently has been the home of four radio brands. One of them has offered Sports Talk programming via a Class D AM and its FM translator.

Now, the company is selling the AM, the originating facility for the “Sports Hog.”

Fort Smith Radio Group, owned and operated by Bill and Karen Pharis through licensee Pharis Broadcasting, is selling KHGG-AM 1580 in Van Buren, Ark.

KHGG broadcasts with 1kw during daylight hours and 49 watts at night, from 1 tower along the east bank of the Arkansas River, opposite Fort Smith.

The buyer is G2 Media Group, led by Darren Girdner.

His company owns and operates KXMX “Mix 105.1” in Muldrow, Okla., a Class A that reaches Fort Smith; and Southern Gospel KFSW-AM 1650 in Fort Smith.

Now, G2 will have a trio of full-power stations and two FM translators in its stable. But, will it include a “Hog”? That’s not clear, as the FM translator it has been using is not included in the deal, according to an asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC on Thursday.

The transaction is valued at $34,000. A $5,000 earnest money deposit has been made.

At closing, $18,240.75 will be delivered directly to Edgewater Broadcasting, the Twin Falls, Idaho-based entity that in recent years sold off many of its noncommercial non-secular broadcast properties.

This will help pay off the funds owed to Edgewater for its sale of FM translator K244FJ to Pharis Broadcasting.

There is no broker or finder in this deal, which sees Davina Sashkin of Fletcher Heald & Hildreth serve as the seller’s legal counsel.
