A Channel-Sharing Agreement for a Class A television station licensed to Miami, Fla., that’s going away thanks to the FCC’s Incentive Auction has been donated to the entity in control of two large PBS member stations serving South Florida.
The station with the CSA is WIMP-25, a Class A digital facility owned by Sunshine Broadcasting Company.
WIMP has had a shaky history since signing on in fall 1990. It was once the home of Home Shopping Network and later aired Spanish-language TV programming.
Sunshine sought a big payday in the FCC’s incentive auction. It netted $3,138,184 for relinquishing WIMP’s spectrum, and it has a post-auction Channel Sharing Agreement in place.
Now, WIMP-25 is donating that CSA to South Florida PBS — the entity that owns and operates WPBT-2 in Miami and WXEL-42 in West Palm Beach.
Per the terms of the agreement, any expenses over $5,000 will fall to the donor.
Sunshine is based in Cheyenne, Wyo., and is headed by Randolph Weigner.
Peter Tannenwald of Fletcher Heald & Hildreth served as the legal counsel representing Sunshine in this transaction.
