Kalil & Co. Helps Shaw Secure An NRG Quartet

In April 2023, a radio station owner not to be confused with a Canadian media operation completed its acquisition of six radio stations, an AM and an FM translator in small Illinois cities from the Studsill family.

Now, the company led by John Rung and dialed up another radio station deal. This time it involves the group led by Mary Quass, and the brokerage services of Kalil & Co.

An application seeking Commission approval is in the process of being filed that sees the transfer of the following stations to Rung’s Shaw Local Radio Co. from NRG Media LLC:

  • Class D WIXN-AM 1460 in Dixon, Ill.
  • Class A WRCV-FM 101.7 in Dixon, Ill.
  • FM translator W236DM at 95.1 MHz in Dixon, Ill.
  • Class A WSEY-FM 95.7 in Oregon, Ill.

Dixon is known as the boyhood home of former President Ronald Reagan. It lies on the banks of the Rock River, and is to the northeast of Peru, La Salle and Oglesby by some 55 miles.

That’s key to the Dixon deal, as Shaw’s April 2023 transaction brought it radio stations serving that area of downstate Illinois.

Shaw is paying $950,000 to NRG Media for the Dixon stations. A 10% earnest money deposit is being held by Kalil & Co.

Serving as Shaw’s legal counsel is David Oxenford of Wilkinson Barker Knauer LLP.

With the sale of the Dixon stations, NRG Media’s markets are comprised of Omaha-Council Bluffs, Lincoln, and the Grand Island-Kearney-Hastings areas of Nebraska; Waterloo-Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Ottawa, Ill.; and the Wisconsin Northwoods area in addition to the city of Wausau.
