The E.W. Scripps Co. has promoted the leaders of its Detroit and Salt Lake City stations, respectively, to the twin roles of Regional Vice President of Local Media.
In these roles, they will continue as general managers for their home local television stations as well as overseeing a regional group of Scripps local stations.
The promotions involve Mike Murri, VP/General Manager of WXYZ-7 and WMYD-20 in Detroit, and Merri Hanson, VP/General Manager of KSTU “FOX 13″ in Salt Lake City.
They’ll report to Lyn Plantinga, SVP of Local Media at Scripps. She commented, “Merri and Mike are accomplished Scripps leaders known for driving business growth and fostering strong connections between their teams and the communities they serve,” said “Their promotions represent our commitment to creating a local media leadership team that enhances our agility and improves financial performance.”
Murri has led Scripps’ Detroit stations for a decade and has been associated with Channel 7 since 1982, rising from Local Sales Manager to Director of Sales and eventually rising to Station Manager. He is a former board member of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Television Bureau of Advertising Advisory Committee. He has served on the ABC Sales Advisory Committee and is also on the executive board of Visit Detroit.
Hanson has served in her current role at “FOX 13” since July 2023 and was previously VP/GM of KIVI-6 in Boise, Idaho. She joined the Scripps-owned station in 2016 as a local sales manager.
