An oral agreement has been struck between Roy E. Henderson, an owner of radio stations in Texas and in Michigan, and a family member that is being done “for estate planning purposes.”
It’s the top item up for discussion on a quiet day for deals in RBR+TVBR‘s TRANSACTIONS TODAY.
For no cash consideration, Class B WARD-AM 750 in Petoskey, Mich., is being given to Henderson’s spouse, Suzanne, through his company N Content Marketing.
WARD broadcasts with 1kw during daylight hours from 2 towers, and 330 watts at night, from 3 towers.
With the move, Roy Henderson will continue to own four stations in Michigan, and six Texas facilities.
If the Henderson name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s been in the news recently regarding FCC matters.
In November 2017, the FCC upheld the license expiration of KROY-FM 99.7 in Palacios, Tex., which Henderson intended to sell to New Wavo II for $550,000.
Meanwhile, in August 2016 Henderson’s N Content Marketing was created to serve as the owner of WARD-AM and 1 AM and 3 FMs in Traverse City, Mich. Two months later, RBR + TVBR learned that N Content Marketing sought FCC approval for a brand-new Class C2 FM facility in the resort community of Gaylord, Mich.
The Henderson-owned entity not getting the new station, the Media Bureau ruled in November 2017. But, another entity can. The reason: A joint counterproposal filed by Henderson himself and another one of his operations, Great Northern Broadcasting System, threw a wrench into the original plan.
