Pandora has a presence in car showrooms and broadcast radio needs to have one as well. That was one of many suggestions made during an NAB Pilot Webinar Wednesday about the connected car.
Now is the time to re-connect with your local car dealership, not just to “ask for the buy” but to also figure out a way your station can impact the training process for today’s infotainment systems, advised Jacobs media President Fred Jacobs. Typically, car dealers give new car owners the basics of the infotainment system before they drive off the lot, and ask them to return after a few weeks with questions ready.
“Many have Saturday classes. Maybe radio stations can have their personalities there,” said Jacobs.
Andrew Hare of Magid & Associates says it’s vital radio not concede the dashboard presence. “It’s about being front and center and winning mindshare when consumers turn on the car.”
He and Jacobs stressed the issue now is not that AM/FM will be left out of the dash in a connected car, but not being buried and hard to find amid all the apps and other entertainment choices.
