Quarter Million for Deleted AM

SoldThe buyer of an Albuquerque AM station obviously believes that it can be salvaged from the FCC junk heap. On the FCC’s website, it has the deadly capital D listed ahead of its call letters.

That’s D as in Deleted.

It is a fate usually reserved for stations that have failed to broadcast for more than a year, and particularly if they failed to get specific FCC permission to go silent for any period of time.

The station is KDEF-AM.

The seller is RAMH Corporation, headed by President Henry Tafoya.

The buyer is Sangre de Cristo Broadcasting Inc., headed by Matias C. Martinez and Martha Martinez.

The price is $250,000 cash.

The station is said to be operating under an STA and its license renewal is pending. Currently, despite continuing to post the D ahead of the calls, the FCC database describes it as being licensed.

KDEF-AM is a Class B on 1150 kHz with 5 kW-D, 500 W-N, DAN. The station has applied to come back on the same frequency with 1.5 kW-D, 105 W-N, ND.
