Proper Mic Techniques To Make Yourself Heard

Why is poor use of a microphone like bad breath?
Because you don’t know you’re doing it until someone tells you.

Maybe this is not the best analogy, but public relations veteran and “Zoom expert” Rosemary Ravinal now has your attention.

“I see bad microphone technique everywhere these days: at a business conference of 1,000 people, an awards gala, small panel discussion, a school graduation, even at a wedding,” she notes. “Most people are never taught how to use a microphone properly, so they keep on repeating bad habits.”

That led Ravinal to create a video, in which she offers tips about microphones in business settings—some of which you may not have heard before.

For example, how close should you hold it to your mouth?

How do you gesture while holding the mic?

How loud should you speak?

What do to do when your microphone is not working, and you have something important to say?

Make yourself heard every time you speak and boost your impact as a leader.
