Kevin Gallagher [SVP/director of local broadcast at Starcom] and I had a meeting last week with the Media Policy committee of the 4As to give them an update of the Local Broadcast Reinvention Committee. Kevin presented to the Media Policy Board who was on the committee (previously reported by RBR/TVBR) and what we had hoped to accomplish. Our committee had determined that with the help of an outside facilitator we will begin to determine all the pain points of the process for all sides and then look at the ways we can improve it. The outside consultant’s job would be to lead teams of people from both agencies and stations to more deeply identify the pain points and determine the changes in the industry that have to take place in order for the business to be more efficient. Then recommendations would be made on what our next steps should be and what kind of things we could eliminate or what kind of issues we could change or not.
Then Media Policy Committee appreciated the work the committee has done so far and suggested that since this facilitator would incur some expense, we need to explore ways in which we can fund this expense. The next meeting of the committee will be at the end of third quarter.
