WASHINGTON, D.C. — Despite an audible chorus of House Judiciary Committee Members saying “No” in a voice vote, the musicFIRST-endorsed American Music Fairness Act, which would impose new royalty payments on radio stations for the airplay of recorded music, is heading to the full House of Representatives for a floor vote.
While that is significant, the markup — conducted more than three hours after the session began due to fierce debate over the Preventing Suicide Through Voluntary Firearm Purchase Delay Act — appears to be political theater at its finest.
As Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) shared, the AMFA is not likely to pass this Congress.
