On Tuesday (7/30), it became known that Norah O’Donnell, the CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor, will leave her role after the 2024 election and take on an undisclosed new position at the network.

Wendy McMahon, the President/CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures, has now shared what the prime-time newscast’s future will be. It involves a move to New York, and “an ensemble team of journalists and new editorial leaders.”

Breaking away from the single-anchor nightly newscast format, CBS Evening News will adopt a two-anchor presentation, with John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois helming the newscast from the CBS Broadcast Center.

Additionally, Face the Nation moderator and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Margaret Brennan will be charged with leading the coverage from Washington, D.C., as broadcast TV news veteran Lonnie Quinn is being named Chief Weathercaster for CBS Evening News.

McMahon commented, “With Norah’s decision, we began reimagining and redesigning the Evening News. The strength of CBS News has always been in its ensemble of journalists, both in front of and behind the camera, and our goal with John, Maurice, Margaret and Lonnie at the Evening News is to elevate the best in their fields every night for our viewers. In addition to this ensemble team, we look forward to welcoming 60 MINUTES correspondents to file for the CBS EVENING NEWS when they have news to break; for decades this was routine, so it will be again.”

Dickerson will continue anchoring newscasts on CBS News 24/7, CBS News’ no-cost national streaming service, and serve as CBS News’ chief political analyst and senior national correspondent.

DuBois and Quinn will continue to have a regular presence across WCBS-2 in New York.

McMahon also confirmed that the weekly “On the Road” stories from CBS News correspondent Steve Hartman and the newly installed “Eye on America” reports from Jim Axelrod and his team will continue as signature segments on CBS Evening News.

McMahon also shared that “60 MINUTES” Executive Producer Bill Owens will serve as the supervising producer of CBS Evening News when it moves to New York, adding the role to his Sunday early-prime duties.

This sees veteran “60 MINUTES” Producer Guy Campanile become Executive Producer of CBS Evening News. Additionally, newswriter Jerry Cipriano is returning to CBS News as the senior news editor and senior producer of CBS Evening News.

Owens said he will share additional staffing updates in the weeks ahead.
