FRANKFURT, GERMANY — A company known for television branding, graphics, automation, master control and playout has just been snagged by a Munich-based developer, producer and marketer of communications, information and security products for some seven decades.

Rohde & Schwarz has acquired Pixel Power Ltd., a Cambridge, England-based technology firm with an office in Grass Valley, Calif., to the north of Sacramento.

Pixel Power specializes in television branding, graphics, automation, master control and playout.

With the acquisition, R&S says it is executing its plan to expand further in broadcast playout while taking ownership of a company with significant technological leadership.

As a subsidiary, it will be formally known as “Pixel Power Ltd. – A Rohde & Schwarz Company.”

“Together we can combine the software defined technologies and virtualized environments to offer customers the very real benefits that they provide in broadcast playout and VOD markets,” said Cornelius Heinemann, Head of Transmitter and Amplifier Systems and File Based Media Solutions.

James Gilbert, Pixel Power’s co-founder and CEO, added, “Our virtualizable integrated playout technology is making a major contribution to Rohde & Schwarz reaching its ambitious goals for cloud-based solutions. Our modern license and payment model also contributes to this. In return, the Rohde & Schwarz size, stability, structures and competencies offer optimal opportunities for the further development of our products and the expansion of our worldwide sales. We believe this combination will benefit our customers enormously.”

Pixel Power leader Gilbert and CTO Nick Wright will remain with the company in their current positions.
