Part of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, NYC Media is the official TV, radio and online network of the City of New York. NYC life – Channel 25.1 over the air, Channel 25 on most cable systems and Channel 22 on Cablevision – will be featuring New York magazine’s annual guide to the best in food, shopping, nightlife, play and beyond, beginning 7/19 at 9pm.

In each edition of the short-form series, New York magazine’s Alan Sytsma visits an eatery, shop or other local business to explore the best in class, as chosen in the ‘Best of New York’ issue, ranging from where to find the best birthday cake or grilled cheese to where to have fun at the best bowling party or arcade in town.

Following its premiere on Tuesdays at 9pm, the Best of New York videos will re-encore on Saturdays at 2:30pm and 9pm, Sundays at 9:30pm and weekdays at 5pm. Best of New York will also be available to watch online on the NYC Media Video on Demand player – nyc.gov/vod, on the NYC Media app and on New York magazine’s website, nymag.com. New videos will be added each week.

RBR-TVBR observation: This is a good way to generate extra revenue in many markets. Most medium and large cities have their life and style magazines, such as South Florida or The Washingtonian. Pair up with one of them, find a good time slot on your main or multicast channels (which get local cable carriage) and pitch different video features to advertisers. The magazine can do much of the heavy lifting on editorial; the TV station can take care of the video and production – no need to hire a bunch of new employees for the effort.
