Another sale of a former Alpha Media property obtained in the debt assumption-fueled merger of the radio station ownership group with Jeff Warshaw-helmed Connoisseur Media is in the works.
This transaction sees the owner of a Christian Contemporary Music station in North Texas agree to acquire the 18kw Class C2 facility serving two cities just south of the Red River and the Oklahoma State Line.
KMAD-FM 102.5 in Whitesboro, Tex., just past noon was heard playing AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell.” Perhaps the Doobie Brothers’ “Jesus Is Just Alright” is a better track, considering the future of the station at its present home.
First Dallas Media has agreed to acquire the property serving the Sherman-Denison, Tex., market, but terms call for Connoisseur to retain the “KMAD” call letters and format, suggesting it will move to one of two other properties Connoisseur owns in the North Texas region — KMKT-FM 93.1 in Bells, Tex., and KLAK-FM 97.5 in Tom Bean, Tex.
An $850,000 purchase price has been agreed to, with a $42,500 deposit being held with Whitley Broadcast Media Inc., the shop established recently by former Media Services Group broker Bill Whitley.
Once acquired, the soon-to-be former KMAD-FM will join a network of stations comprised of KCBI-FM in Dallas, KCBN-FM in Hico, KZBI-FM in Marlin and future KCBV-FM in Reisel, Tex.
