No More ‘Buzz’ As EMF Takes Over From Sours

As 2022 came to a close, Bill Sours signed off on an agreement that would spin a 6kw Class A FM serving such Mitten State communities as Jonesville and Hillsdale, due southeast of Battle Creek, to the second-largest licensee of FM radio stations in the U.S.

That deal has now closed. As such, “BUZZ 102.5” has flown away.

Educational Media Foundation has closed on its purchase of WBZV-FM in Hudson, Mich.

The seller is Sour’s Madsun Investments, LLC, and he earned $285,000 from the station’s sale. That’s good news for Sours, as he paid $230,000 for WBZV through his Madsun Investments.

Representing both the buyer and seller in this transaction is Jon Yinger of Broadcast Properties LLC.

Sours is exiting station ownership after his experience of owning WBZV, which lasted roughly two years. He acquired WBZV in January 2020 from the Bob Elliot-led Friends Communications of Michigan.

WBZV has had its present call letters since 2003, and from January 1995 is the original WMXE. Now-retired respected station owners Bruce and Sue Goldsen once managed that incarnation of WMXE.

What’s next for Sours, who was raised in the Hudson, Mich., area? RBR+TVBR hears he’s moving to Grand Rapids to be closer to his children.
