Looking to ensure that your AM radio station’s audio consumption is fully measured by a Nielsen Audio PPM?

The conclusion of “an extensive field evaluation” from Orban Labs may bring a smile to your face, and happiness to your programming and sales teams.

The broadcast audio processing company announced Wednesday (10/28) that Nielsen PPM
encoding is now available as a free add-on to its OPTIMOD XPN-AM processor.

Several stations are now handling the Nielsen PPM encoding via the processor, including  Sports Talk KHTK-AM 1140 in Sacramento and Class A Talker WSB-AM 750 in Atlanta.

“Orban was a fantastic collaborator in our beta field evaluation test,” said Jason Ornellas, Director of Engineering for Bonneville/Sacramento. “They provided constant communication and their dedicated team was on hand to ensure that the XPN-AM processor was successful with Nielsen encoding standards.”

Aaron Farnham, Bonneville/Salt Lake City’s Director of Engineering, adds, “We are broadcasting HD Radio AM using MDCL, and having the built-in PPM encoding is great
and was easy to implement. It gives you the ability to process and then encode so you don’t damage the quality of the encoding.”

Existing OPTIMOD XPN-AM customers should contact Orban for more information; new units will ship with the Nielsen PPM encoding on-board.
