On Tuesday, RBR+TVBR first shared the news that the 2023 Major League Baseball World Champions have formed a new business entity, under which the Rangers Sports Network (RSN) will produce and distribute the Texas Rangers’ games and other select content.
It is now known that the nation’s largest owner of broadcast TV stations will air at least a dozen of those games on free-to-air television across the Rangers’ territory.
Nexstar Media Group has reached a deal with the American League franchise to televise “at least 15 regular season games” and four spring training games during the upcoming 2025 season.
The regular-season games will air across 17 Nexstar-owned and partner television stations in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
Nexstar-owned KDAF-TV “CW33” in Dallas-Fort Worth will serve as the flagship station for broadcasts in the Rangers’ home market.
In San Antonio, Texas, the games will be carried by KCWX-2, owned by Corridor Television.
Over-the-air broadcasts of the Rangers will also be seen in Tulsa, via Griffin Media-owned KQCW-TV.
“We are extremely pleased to be bringing Rangers baseball to the best fans in the country, and to have KDAF/CW33 serving as the flagship station for Rangers broadcasts in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Securing 15 regular season games and four spring training games for broadcast on free over-the-air television is a clear demonstration of Nexstar’s commitment to serving our local communities with high-quality live sports and entertainment programming.”
The first regular-season game on Nexstar’s stations will air Friday, March 28, against the Boston Red Sox; the full schedule of televised games will be announced at a later date.
