BOCA RATON, FLA. — He was associated with Fox News Channel from November 1998 through August 2010 and later spent 8 1/2 years at CBS News. Now, this veteran broadcast and digital news operations executive is settling in to his role as VP/News Operations at the Chris Ruddy-run Newsmax.
Tim Gaughan has been in the role since September. However, a formal announcement did not arrive until Thursday (12/5).
Gaughan arrives from Allen Media Group-owned The Weather Channel, where he served as Special Projects Producer and Field Producer; financial challenges have led to cutbacks at TWC, including the discontinuation of its Spanish-language channel for U.S. Hispanic audiences.
He spent 17 months at TWC, and before that was VP/News Operations for FOX Weather, spending 18 months in that role.
Until January 2020, he was with CBS News, exiting as VP of Affiliate Services and Multipath. Gaughan took that post in late 2017 after a three-year tenure as VP of Newsgathering.
For 13 months beginning in August 2010, he held a similar role for the U.S. assignment desk at Bloomberg. Before that, he was Director of Domestic News at Fox News Channel, a role Newsmax was eager to play up as it is the network’s chief competitor.
At Fox, he also served as VP of Newsgathering, as well as Vice President of Affiliate Services; Baghdad Bureau Chief; and as Assignment Manager.
