New Normal: Religious Operator Buys A CHR FM

In a transaction RBR+TVBR first reported in November 2024, WMAY-AM & FM and WNNS-FM & WQLZ-FM in the Springfield, Ill., market are being sold by Mid-West Family Broadcasting to Woodward Communications Inc.

The transaction officially put Woodward over the FCC’s current local ownership cap, as it had closed one month earlier on the acquisition of three FMs in Bloomington and three FMs and one AM in Springfield. Now, one of the Bloomington FMs is being spun.

WWHX-FM “NOW 100.7” in Normal, Ill., a Class A FM offering a Hot Adult Contemporary music format acquired by Woodward from Neuhoff Media, is being snapped up by University of Northwestern-St. Paul.

That’s the broadcast ministry that operates its radio stations under the “Northwestern Media” banner, and has been in acquisition mode for several years. Among its more recent deals is a donation-based deal that gave it FMs from Sound of Life Inc. in Upstate New York during 2024.

In this deal, Northwestern Media is purchasing $100,000 for the FM, which will conclude its format with the transaction.

A $5,000 escrow deposit has been made to Woodward by Northwestern Media.

Greg Guy of Tideline Partners represented Woodward in this transaction.

Serving as the buyer’s legal counsel is Joe Chautin III of Hardy, Carey, Chautin & Balkin in Mandeville, La.
