Nautel, Quu Come Together For Visual Radio Technology

Canadian broadcast transmission technology company Nautel is partnering up with the Steve Newberry-helmed Quu Inc., to help further the latter’s efforts to deploy rich visual content for radio. And, the simplification of bringing this technology to fruition will be at the crux of its 2025 NAB Show presentations.

For those in Las Vegas for this year’s show, which begins April 6, the first integrated Visual Radio Air Chain will be on display. It combines Nautel’s software-based air chain with Quu’s ad and programming content management system.

The integration allows radio broadcasters to synchronize on-screen visuals with their audio content, something Nautel and Quu say is designed to improve listener engagement and create new revenue opportunities.

What’s noteworthy is that Quu and Rapid functionality are woven directly into the transmitter with integrations that tie in studio automation. “The result is a seamless software-based air chain implementation that extends from content playout through visual metadata, audio processing, HD coding and synchronization,” Nautel says.

Nautel and Quu | Rapid will host a live demonstration at the Nautel booth (W2809) on the NAB show floor. Contributions from WideOrbit and Radio.Cloud will support the demonstration.

Broadcasters interested in implementing visual radio at their stations can attend a special tutorial, to be held Sunday, April 6 from 1:15pm-2pm at the Flamingo Hotel in its 3rd floor Scenic/Twilight Ballrooms. This follows the annual Radio Technology Forum, from 8:30am-noon. Presenters will offer a step-by-step guide to deploying visual radio, addressing technical, operational, and revenue-driven best practices.

Additionally, Xperi, Quu, and Nautel will co-host a special industry reception at
the Nautel booth on Monday, April 7, at 4pm Pacific.

“Radio broadcasters have a unique opportunity to enhance their presence in the modern ca dashboard, and Nautel is committed to making it easier than ever to implement visual metadata,” said Nautel Chief Technology Officer Philipp Schmid. “Our collaboration with Quu ensures that every station, whether AM or FM, can deliver an engaging visual experience that strengthens listener loyalty and advertiser value.”

Newberry, who founded and is CEO of Quu, added, “The Visual Radio Air Chain is about keeping broadcasters competitive in today’s digital world. By working with Nautel and our industry partners, we’re empowering stations with easy to use solutions to create captivating, revenue-generating dashboard experiences that drive audience engagement.”
