Just in time for the 2026 NAB Show, radio broadcast transmitter company Nautel has broadened its collection of NX Series AM transmitters with two new digital/analog low‑power models.
The new transmitters bring Nautel’s AM modulation and digital transmission capabilities to lower power levels for the first time.
The 1kw NX1 and 2,500-watt NX2.5 are built on the same NX Series architecture used in more than 40 MW of high‑power AM deployments worldwide.
The new products are enabled by a new 250 W RF power module specifically developed to deliver NX‑class performance in low‑power configurations. This new module extends the NX Series’ ultra‑linear modulation, digital precorrection, and operational redundancy to the low-power AM market, Nautel adds.
Both models support HD Radio, including MA3 (all‑digital) operation, as well as all current DRM modes. Advanced digital precorrection and Nautel’s six‑phase direct digital modulation architecture are also present.
The products have a modular, fully digital design with front‑accessible, hot‑pluggable RF power modules that contribute equally to the final output. This approach supports on‑air serviceability, high efficiency, and long‑term reliability, Nautel believes.
Nautel’s HTML‑based Advanced User Interface (AUI) provides comprehensive local and remote monitoring, while built‑in real‑time RF instrumentation—including spectrum and impedance measurement—offers deep system visibility without external test equipment.
“Low-power AM transmitters haven’t had these kind of capabilities in the past,” said John Whyte, Nautel Head of Marketing and Product Strategy. “With our new 250‑watt RF module, we were able to extend our proven NX architecture into the low‑power AM market without compromising performance. It’s exciting to be able to bring exceptional linearity, digital operation, and high efficiency to these broadcasters.”
The NX1 and NX2.5 low‑power AM transmitters will be available in Fall 2026 and will be shown at Nautel’s NAB Booth C2546.
