In September 2009, a group of radio stations serving the Texas city of Waco were sold by Simmons Media. They include an expanded-band AM, a Class D sibling, a Class A FM and an FM translator fueling the Sports Talk station on the kHz band.
Today, these stations remain owned by the company that bought them 16 years ago. However, the licensee has shifted to debtor-in-possession status.
It marks a new chapter for Gary Moss and M&M Broadcasters, as KRMX-FM 104.9 in Bellmead, Tex.; KBHT-AM 1590 (formerly KEKR) in Mexia and K222DC in Waco, Tex.; and KRZI-AM 1660 in Waco are now under bankruptcy protection.
Anne Goodwin Crump at Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth made the filing on behalf of the licensee. And, it includes a particular caveat as to what organization is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy — it is M&M Broadcasters, Ltd., and not general partner “M&M Broadcasting Co.”
That entity’s sole shareholder is Mr. Moss, and that role remains unchanged.
This likely won’t stop the 50-100 creditors from moving forward with filing a proof of claim, as that deadline is June 2.
Not included as assets under bankruptcy protection are three other FM translators in Waco, and FM translators in Moody and in Temple, Tex.
This KRMX is not to be confused with the facility at 92.9 MHz in Marlin, Tex., sold to First Dallas Media in late 2023. A call-sign change for the 104.9 MHz facility was made in July 2024.
