Spanish Broadcasting System’s Mega TV announced the addition of an affiliate in the New York City market, the nation’s #2 Hispanic market.

Beginning in March, Mega TV will be available on WRNN-TV’s multicast Channel 48.2 in a deal with WRNN owner Rise Television. Mega TV will handle the sales operation in NYC, where SBS already has multiple radio stations.

In addition to the over-the-air signal, Mega TV will be carried in the New York area on Time Warner Cable Channel 92 and Verizon FiOs Channel 466. Mega TV is also nationally distributed through DirecTV Mas.

In addition to the new affiliate in New York, Mega TV recently signed affiliation agreements in  Chicago, Dallas, Fresno and Palm Springs, all key Hispanic markets. Combined, the recent deals take  the network’s reach to nearly 6.5 million households and covering 30% of the US Hispanic market.

“This expansion showcases the strength of the Mega TV brand on all fronts,” said Cynthia Hudson, EVP/CCO of SBS and the Managing Director of Mega TV. “Mega TV continues to prove that it has the relevance and original programming that US Latinos demand. Our unique style and approach to Spanish-language content, renowned talent and fresh formats are the key to our successful track record and excellent ratings,” she added.

“The launch of Mega TV in New York, the #2 Hispanic market reaffirms our commitment to continue the expansion of Mega TV nationally. The New York market is especially important to us as we have the support of SBS radio stations Amor and Mega. We are in continuous discussions with other affiliates in other Top 10 markets, and hope to make those announcements in the coming months,” said Maggie Salas-Amaro, Director of Affiliate Relations for Mega TV.
