The sale of three radio stations in Wisconsin to Dave Magnum‘s Magnum Communications from the media company owned by Mary Quass is now complete.
The transaction saw Kalil & Co. serve as the broker of record.
The deal, valued at $2.7 million, sees Magnum picking up Class B WFAW-AM and Class B WSJY-FM in Fort Atkinson, Wisc.; and Class A WKCH-FM in Whitewater, Wisc.
It officially closed on Monday, Kalil & Co. announced.
NRG, following this deal, is now comprised of 38 radio stations in the Midwest, located in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo, Iowa; Dixon, Ottawa, and Salem, Ill.; Northwoods and Wausau, Wisc.; and Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha, Neb., representing NRG’s largest markets.
For Magnum, the total station count grows to 19.
Speaking of his newest properties, Dave Magnum said, “My first radio job was in my hometown at WNNO in Wisconsin Dells which, back then, was on 107.1 (it is now on 106.9). The first-adjacent station was 107.3 WSJY, so we were very aware of that
powerhouse emanating from the south. My Mom’s family is from Chicago, and when we’d
drive there, I marveled at how we could listen to WSJY from the Dells to way beyond
Rockford. So, at age 16, I started keeping an ear on that big 107.3 signal thinking, if my
crazy dream of putting together a chain of stations ever came true, I’d sure want WSJY
to be part of it. Now, 40 years later, my two sons, Reid and TY, and our co-workers are
privileged to have that opportunity. We’re pinching ourselves because if we had been
able to create a signal from scratch to finish connecting our stations across Wisconsin, we couldn’t have drawn up a better one than WSJY.”
In December 2019, upon the announcement that a deal was in the works, Quass commented on the pending sale of the three stations. “We have been fortunate to have worked with the great people at the stations in Fort Atkinson for many years,” she said. “The dedicated broadcasters at the stations will continue to provide the Fort Atkinson community with great local radio, and know they will contribute to the success of Magnum Communications going forward.”
