LPTV Spectrum Rights Coalition To Skip NAB Show

The LPTV Spectrum Rights Coalition, which for the past seven years has represented the low-power TV industry to Congress and with the FCC, has surveyed its members and general newsletter readers regarding their plans for late April, when the NAB Show in Las Vegas is to be staged.

Based on reader feedback and COVID-19 concerns, it will not be holding its independently produced event held during the National Association of Broadcasters’ biggest annual affair.

The LPTV Coalition’s shoulder event was to be held on April 17 at the Westgate Hotel’s convention center. Some 250 industry professionals, staff, family members and supporting engineers, lawyers and Commission officials typically attend the event.

Among the reasons cited: Half of the respondents are over the age of 60 and concerned for their health.

The LPTV Coalition notes that it is exploring alternative ways to outreach to the industry for its supporting sponsors.

A handful of the hundreds of expo vendors have also decided to scrap their attendance at the NAB Show. Meanwhile, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and Commissioner Mike O’Rielly are on standby awaiting further word on how COVID-19 concerns, which are very minimal in Clark County, Nev., at this time, could impact their scheduled travel to Las Vegas.
